Yough River Trail

For 12 years, the Youghiogheny River Trail, built on an abandoned rail line, has meandered through Boston, Greenock, Industry and Blythedale, riverfront communities in Elizabeth that seem to grow more charming with the years.

If some parts of the 70-mile Youghiogheny River Trail between McKeesport and Confluence are barren, this isn't one of them.

This stretch of the trail is like a trip back in time, past communities with neat houses where life seems slower, yards are rolling and green and vegetable gardens flourish, even when shaded by large trees.

IMBA Trail News -

With looming threats of closures coming from the Pennsylvania Game Commission, mountain bikers are trying to organize a state-wide "umbrella" organization that will bring together many of the state's diverse local groups. Called the Keystone Mountain Bike Association (KMBA), the group is in the process of getting local groups to join so they can address state agencies with a unified, strong voice. To get involved, contact them through the website.

Keystone Mountain Bike Association

Keystone Mountain Bike Association (KMBA) is a new IMBA affiliated organization that was created to "protect and encourage mountain bike trail access by creating good working relationships with Pennsylvania State Land Management Agencies. We will provide information, education and support to statewide mountain bike riders, organizations and clubs as well as represent them in their efforts to communicate and cooperate with the state authorities." Visit their home page at http://www.bikekmba.org

Mountain Bicycling Etiquette

EMPHASIZING:

Positive People Interactions and Care For The Land

* Make your contacts with others pleasant, no matter how brief.

* Make the first move. Yield to hikers and horseback riders.

* Speak up or ring your bell at first sighting! Try not to startle people or livestock!

* When approaching oncoming livestock on narrow trails, speak, slow down and move off the trail to the downhill side. When passing livestock from behind, speak out and ask for instructions. Let both livestock and riders know you are a friendly human.

* Ride in small groups and in single file when passing.

* Ride in control and pass others slowly.

* Respect private property and route closures. Leave gates as you find them. If we abuse a privilege, we'll lose it.

* Tread lightly and leave no trace by packing out litter and avoid muddy trails. Stay off the vegetation and on designated routes. Try not to skid.

* Help teach new riders proper trail etiquette. Lead by example.

* Try not to disturb wildlife.

Remember that all mountain bicyclists will be judged by your actions.
TAKE CARE OF THE PLACES YOU RIDE.

The Great Allegheny Passage
The Allegheny Trail Alliance

A coalition of seven rails to trails organizations building the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150 mile biking and hiking trail connecting Cumberland, MD and Pittsburgh, PA with a 52 mile branch to the Pittsburgh International Airport. We expect to have the connection between the Passage and the C & O Canal Towpath in Cumberland, MD completed in 2006, creating a continuous non-motorized corridor from near Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.

Weight Loss

For Dummies

Weight loss can be as elusive as a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. There are countless diet plans promising amazing results, and even health specialists disagree on the best methods.

We decided to look into some serious weight loss issues to help determine why normally accepted methods like fad diets, strenuous exercise, and even starvation diets simply do not work.

What we found out is that food is not only the reason you are overweight, the proper use of certain foods at the right time may be the answer to solving many health related issues associated with obesity and overweight.
